The success of complex construction projects depends on leaders who can anticipate challenges, make critical decisions, and hold teams accountable from start to finish.

For more than two decades, Tom Pagel has brought that level of leadership to major developments across the region at CG Schmidt.

He has been named Project Executive of the Year in The Daily Reporter’s 2026 Newsmakers of the Year awards, recognizing his expertise, leadership, and contributions to the construction industry.

Tom has played a pivotal role in landmark projects, including the Columbia St. Mary’s redevelopment, Northwestern Mutual’s downtown campus expansion, and Aurora Health Center at 84South.

Beginning with Columbia St. Mary’s in 2004, he developed the expertise to navigate the complexities of a major healthcare development and applied that experience to other high-profile projects.

From coordinating hundreds of workers to managing the logistics of active urban environments and aligning multiple project partners, Tom turns complex challenges into actionable plans that keep teams focused and projects moving forward.

At Aurora Health Center at 84South, Tom championed modular prefabricated mechanical ceiling racks, demonstrating how innovative building methods can improve efficiency and deliver value.

Tom builds trusted relationships with owners, architects, subcontractors, and project teams while setting high standards for excellence.

“Tom’s impact goes well beyond the projects he delivers,” said Bryce Unger, Vice President at CG Schmidt. “He brings people together, shares his experience, and helps those around him become better at what they do. His leadership strengthens our teams and reinforces the standards of quality, collaboration, and accountability we expect at CG Schmidt.”

Tom’s legacy extends far beyond the buildings he’s helped construct. It is reflected in the people he has mentored, the teams he’s strengthened, the trust he’s earned, and the lasting impact he has made on the construction industry.
