Froedtert Surgery Center at Sargeant Health Center
The Ambulatory Surgery Center Addition and Renovation at Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin Sargeant Health Center showcases the complexity of delivering healthcare construction and occupied healthcare renovations within an active medical facility. The project was designed to strengthen surgical operations, expand procedural capacity, and enhance the overall care environment—all while maintaining uninterrupted clinical services.
Scope of Work: The project includes an 8,440-square-foot addition and a 17,834-square-foot renovation completed between October 2024 and February 2026. Delivered within a fully occupied healthcare facility, the construction required meticulous phasing, rigorous infection-prevention measures, and continuous coordination with hospital leadership and clinical staff. Every phase was strategically planned to maintain patient safety, preserve critical surgical operations, and minimize disruption within one of the facility’s most complex care environments.
Optimizing Surgical Performance: Designed to improve the flow of both patients and caregivers, the renovated surgical department creates a more efficient and resilient clinical environment. Enhancements to pre- and post-operative circulation, upgraded operating room air quality, and expanded support spaces enable full utilization of five operating rooms and two gastrointestinal (GI) procedure rooms. Sterile Processing and storage areas were both doubled in size, increasing capacity while improving workflow, operational efficiency, and compliance with modern healthcare standards.
Investing in the Care Team: The project modernized staff support spaces, including locker rooms expanded to twice their original size with updated finishes. These enhancements improve daily workflows, elevate the employee experience, and support long-term operational excellence. Completed with zero construction safety incidents, the project reflects the planning, coordination, and healthcare expertise required to deliver complex construction within an occupied medical facility. The result is a more efficient surgical environment that strengthens patient care, supports clinical teams, and prepares the health center for future growth.
