First Day Back at School

 In Insights

It’s the first week back at school after a fun-filled summer break. In preparation of the first week back, teachers and faculty set up their classrooms and created lesson plans. Students everywhere scrambled to find the perfect outfit and get to the bus on time. Parents said their goodbyes, gave hugs, and sent their kids into a new school year.

Luckily, CG Schmidt was there to help by finishing up construction on the following schools, just in time for the new school year to begin:

Barneveld School District: This new 40,000-square-foot addition houses a new library, classrooms, open resource spaces, individual specialty classrooms, and new administration offices. Work at the school also included new HVAC and heating units, fire alarms, an elevator for accessibility, and safety and security upgrades.

Greendale Middle School: The improvements at Greendale Middle School focused on increased safety and security, improved learning environments, flexible and adaptable workspaces as well as improved building efficiency and sustainability.

School District of Brown Deer: In order to resolve overcrowding issues at Brown Deer Elementary School, an addition of 22,940 square feet of space was added to Brown Deer Middle School, which now houses grades 6-8th. The additions include 12 new classrooms, a new kitchen as well as new secure, separate entrance for the middle school addition. Further improvements were completed at the middle/high school including new lockers throughout the entire school, dedicated grade-level music and art rooms, collaboration classrooms, a graphics lab, school band room and a black box theater classroom. Additional renovations were done at Brown Deer Elementary including a new kitchen, expanded student commons, and a new administration area.

St. John XXIII Parish School: This expansion and renovation project includes a new elevator, stairwell, corridors, windows, glass dividers, carpet, student lockers and cubbies. Classrooms were moved to a new academic wing. Additions to the existing building include a new music room, classrooms, a STEM center and secure entrance.

Whitnall School District:  Each school in the Whitnall School District has been enhanced. Work completed at Hales Corners Elementary includes an improved infrastructure with security and technology updates, enhanced security at the main entrance, a classroom addition, upgraded windows, doors and plumbing. Work at Whitnall High School – originally built by CG Schmidt in 1958 – includes the renovation of learning spaces for technology education, art, and business; improved building infrastructure with interior and exterior updates including a roof replacement, pool renovation, improvements to the gym with the addition of air conditioning, and updated ADA compliance. Further improvements were also completed at Whitnall Middle School and Edgerton Elementary School.

As the students, administration and faculty at Barneveld, Greendale, St. John XXIII and Whitnall schools enjoy their updated learning spaces, CG Schmidt is still hard at work elsewhere. Stay tuned for the next round of schools currently under construction, including: additional projects at the remaining four Greendale schools, Cedarburg School District, Wisconsin Dells School District, Swallow School District, Pewaukee School District and Cristo Rey Jesuit High School.
