CG Schmidt has started a lean journey to change how we do things and create more efficiency for our customers. We’ve joined the Lean Construction Institute and have invested significant time and effort to understand lean concepts and to move toward lean thinking. To organize this effort, we coined an internal initiative we call LeanFocus.
LeanFocus is geared around eliminating waste in six key areas:
Defining Value Early
We believe Defined Expectations = Reliable Results. Anything else will yield a surprise. In our business, surprises are something to prevent. It’s our job to understand the Owner’s goals and help define what value represents for their project. The word “value” can mean different things to different people. For some, value is simply a euphemism for low-cost – that is, if a product or service is delivered at the lowest market price, than you received something of “value”. We think that’s far too simple of a definition, and one that doesn’t recognize the nuances of the design and construction process.
We see “value” as a zero sum concept that can be broken down into five inter-related variables.
As your Construction Manager it’s our responsibility to identify and balance the project team’s expectations for a successful project - one that achieves your optimum blend of Quality, Cost, Design and Function and does so with the least amount of Waste.
